SRWA, WAJA publish research report on Aboriginal Justice Advisory Mechanisms in WA
WAJA is excited to release a redacted version of Project Team 1’s final research paper today. You can read it here.
The team produced a report on potential WA Aboriginal justice advisory mechanisms, including an Aboriginal Justice Advisory Council and Aboriginal Justice Advisory Agreement.
The report was created over 14 weeks by Isabelle Bavcevic, Rory O'Sullivan, Maria Ambrose, Jit Neo and Helena Trang for Social Reinvestment WA (SRWA). Special acknowledgement must be made to Ruth Dineen of the Aboriginal Legal Service of WA (ALSWA) and Sophie Stewart from SRWA for mentoring and supervising the project respectively.
The purpose of this report was to propose recommendations for the implementation of an enduring WA Aboriginal Justice Agreement, based on considerations put forward by consultation with stakeholders in other jurisdictions and the models used in those jurisdictions. The research proposed in our report will be used by SRWA to inform their future community engagement and advocacy for the establishment of Aboriginal justice advisory mechanisms in WA.
Please note, this is a summarised public version of the Project team's consultation report to Social Reinvestment WA. It does not contain information obtained through confidential consultations and other sensitive information that is not appropriate for publication.
More to come.
