New Project #2 announced: Effective Police Training for Family Violence
WA Justice Association is excited to announce our second project for Semester 1.
Project Team 2 will be undertaking the project topic: Effective Police Training for Family Violence. This project is in partnership with Equal Opportunity Training and WA Police, and is supervised by Franca Sala Tenna (Equal Opportunity Training).
The aim of the project is to produce a research paper into effective training strategies for Police Officers for training relating to family and domestic violence situations.
The purpose of this project is to inform future Police training to help ensure Police Officers effectively interpret and respond to family and domestic violence situations. Our research will be used to develop innovative training workshops that will influence Police practices by promoting long-term behavioural change and effective frontline processes.
Project Team 2 is comprised of 5 students: Frances Lamont (Team Leader), Shiya Tee, Gavin Fernandez, Rhianna Dehne and Genevieve Mascarenhas. The team will be mentored by Melanie Naylor. Melanie is an experienced litigator recently retired from the partnership of Tottle Partners, having worked primarily in the area of medical negligence and regulation.
Meetings commenced in Week 1 of the University of Western Australia’s Semester 1 period. As with our other concurrent project, this project will run for 13 weeks.
Given the nature of this project, much of the information and updates concerning this project will be confidential.
However, please keep up to date with our social media for updates on the project teams and our other project. Also keep an eye out for original research and content from our Pilot Project report (in partnership with SRWA) on raising the age of criminal responsibility beginning early April.
