We are excited to announce our second project team for Semester 2, 2022: Spent Convictions.

Our amazing team consists of Maria Ambrose, Hugo Brossard, Claudia Genovese, Hannah Jackson, and Kilkenny Ong (Team Leader).

The Project Team will focus on researching the social impact of criminal records, the value of spent convictions for reintegration efforts such as gaining employment or housing, and developing a tool which is tailored to demographics most in need of support.

We are excited to announce our second project team for Semester 2, 2022: First Nations and Data Sovereignty.

Our incredible team consists of Jessica Huynh (Team Leader), Ailish Dey, Connor O'Sullivan, Laura Walton and Olivia Trimboli. By producing a roadmap on how FNDS can be achieved in a criminal justice context, the final report will assist the Wungening Aboriginal Corporation in their advocacy for FNDS.

We are excited to announce our first Project Team for Semester 1, 2022: Fitness to Stand Trial: under the Criminal Law (Mentally Impaired Accused) Act 1996 (WA). The team consists of Policy Analysts: Max Hinch, Hugo Brossard, Maria Ambrose, Lachie Phillips, Charlotte Salom (Team Leader). The Project is in partnership with the Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH) and is supervised by Liz Connor (Senior Policy Officer, Mental Health and Public Health) from WAAMH. The Project Team will be closely mentored by Nicholas Versteegen from Mental Health Law Centre and Magistrate Felicity Zempilas.

WAJA hosted its very first panel event on Wednesday, 20th October: Effective Methods for Reducing Crime and Recidivism. The panel focussed on bringing to light some key issues in the criminal justice system before turning to effective methods and solutions for reducing crime and recidivism in our community.

Our WAAMH Project Team will be undertaking the project topic: Individual Placement and Support (IPS) Model for People with Mental Health Issues in the Criminal Justice System.

Our Mid-West Youth Skills Team will be undertaking the project topic: Mid-West Youth Skills Programme. This project is in partnership with Mid-West Service Providers, and is supervised by Lisa Kazalac (CEO & Founder – Professional Vogue).

Kate Barcham, Dominique Hansen and Anne Fielder provided three separate, informative workshops to educate the new Advocacy and Outreach Team on different aspects of advocacy and outreach strategy.

Thank you to everyone who donated to support our team in today's Walk for Justice; we raised $5,105.

Project Team 2 will be undertaking the project topic: Effective Police Training for Family Violence. This project is in partnership with Equal Opportunity Training and WA Police, and is supervised by Franca Sala Tenna (Equal Opportunity Training).

Project Team 1 will be undertaking the project topic: Aboriginal Justice Advisory Mechanisms in Western Australia. The project in is partnership with Social Reinvestment WA (SRWA), and will be supervised by Sophie Stewart (SRWA) and Reginald Ramos (SRWA).
